DURING- The floor has been beefed up with two layers of 3/4" plywood and a third layer of 1/2" concrete board. A heating mat is installed which will keep the tile floor warm and toasty.

DURING- both the window and door of the house will be removed or replaced. The window is directly above the kitchen sink and it will be replaced with shutters. Tthe sliding glass door will be replaced with an interior glass door.

DURING- now that the addition shell is watertight the exterior siding has been removed from the wall of the house and the sliding glass door has been replaced with a plastic sheet to contain the dust.

DURING- interior work is almost complete. All that remains is the installation of custom cabinetry that will go against the partition wall and some electric trim-out.

AFTER- The wood shutters provide some privacy when closed. The sill of the window opening was finished with granite to match the countertop.

DURING- The tile floor is complete, the new interior door with transom has been installed, and the window has been removed and the opening trimmed out – all that remains is a coat of paint

AFTER- The new concrete stairwell is complete. New custom made cast iron railings sit atop each of the two block walls with a stair rail on each side.

DURING- Wood forms are installed for the steps over a 4" gravel base. The top course of solid concrete block will be installed after the steps are poured. At that same time the block walls will be filled with concrete and reinforced with steel rebar.

DURING- all of the existing landscaping ties have been removed and the perimeter of the stairwell area has been excavated so that a concrete footing can be installed for the new concrete block walls.

DURING- The new concrete block walls are covered with a stucco finish.

AFTER- now that the concrete work is finished you can clearly see the trench drain and the cover for the sump pump pit.

DURING- A trench drain was installed to eliminate the clogging problem. It drains directly into a sump pit, and is also tied into the basement drain tile system in case this stairwell sump pump ever fails.

BEFORE- The 7 foot wide basement stairwell was built entirely out of 6 x 6 landscaping ties... Not only the retaining walls, but the steps as well. The drain at the bottom of the stairwell often clogs and has caused two basement floods.
