| 説明 | (2013.09.20) Relaxing on a Friday night with the highest %ABV beer I had in my fridge.Poured straight out of fridge into a glass goblet. Dark orange-amber/honey, with a foamy white head that was practically non-existent. Smells of citrus with hints of malts. The citrus is rather overpowering, however.Medium to thin body with medium carbonation. Slightly creamy. The drink has a passable mouthfeel, but nothing amazing. Which is basically what I'd have to say about how it tastes. To its credit, the drink masks its 9.50% ABV incredibly well, but the taste is rather one-dimensional: almost nothing at front, citrus in the middle, with a hint of malts you have to really hunt for at the finish. Bitter aftertaste.I feel like the average mouthfeel, coupled with a taste that's weighed so heavily towards the middle makes for a rather unbalanced and boring drink. It really doesn't taste like an IPA, much less a Double/Imperial IPA. Coronado's Idiot IPA, which I had previously, had a very similar taste profile, but was better balanced, making it the superior drink compared to this. Disappointing compared to Karl Strauss' own Boardwalk Black Rye IPA. The Tower 20 IIPA isn't bad, but it's nothing special.Except for maybe that extra 1% ABV. I'm definitely beginning to feel it kick in.---Karl Strauss Brewing Company (San Diego, CA)9.50% ABV$6.39 + CRV + Tax |
