| 説明 | 9/16/13 Sutro Baths, San Francisco, San Francisco county, California. This is presumably the same bird I found here this morning, photographed here at about 3:00PM. It was seen in the morning nearly a mile away, but luckily in the afternoon (after not being seen since the initial 9:00AM observation) I flew in front of a bewildered audience of several birders standing at the platform. When it came around in the afternoon, I spotted the bird, got the rest of the birders on it, then lunged for my camera and pulled off these few marginal documentation shots. This is part of a massive incursion of this species into California, with over 30 birds found in the state in the past five days (mostly in the past 3). Before this incursion there were just four Northern California records. This was seen at the same time as another one which would tied be the 8th Northern California Record, but an additional bird later in the morning furnished the 9th. This is also only the second county record, and the first since 1981! |
