| 説明 | The rail line from Port Pirie reached Gladstone in 1877. The line was extended to Peterborugh in 1880 which then gave it a connection to Adelaide. Then in 1894 a line was extended from Balaklava and Blyth up to Gladstone through Georgetown. This gave the town two gauges. narrow guage from Port Pirie and broad guage from Blyth. In 1884 the narrow line gauge was extended north from Gladstone to Laura and to Wilmington by 1915. Then in 1970 the line from Crystal Brook to Broken Hill was standardised and Gladstone then had three gauges, broad, standard and narrow. Today only the standard gauge is used by trains going from Adelaide to Broken Hill and Sydney. |
