説明 | Day 4: Big Arroyo Junction to Moraine Lake.Edit from 2023: Since the statute of limitations has passed I feel free to reveal a bit of lawbreaking Ingrid and I performed back in 2013 during our nine day hike across the Sierra Nevada.Ingrid spent much of her adult life in Sunset Beach, CA, and I guess there was a longtime local character there called Mr Bill. Mr Bill died in poverty (probably how he lived most of his life, too), but he had a lot of friends, and at his funeral his ashes were divided up to be buried in various “beautiful places.” Ingrid received a can of Mr Bill’s ashes and packed it with her during our hike.About halfway on our journey we spent a night at Moraine Lake. After dinner, we hiked about a quarter of the way around the lake and buried Mr Bill under a tree not far from the southern shore of the lake, at a spot very rarely (if ever) visited by people. Now I am pretty sure there are laws and regulations governing the disposal of human remains, and I am also pretty sure the US Park Service would have something to say about the unauthorized disposal of human remains on park property. I wasn’t enthusiastic about what we did, but Ingrid has been a life-long scofflaw and so some of Mr Bill slumbers at 9,300 feet near a lake in the Sequoia National Park.I don’t know what happened to the rest of him. |
