| 説明 | Pinus albicaulis (whitebark pine) shows little if any evidence of being infected by blister rust in this region of the Jarbidge Mountains, Elko County, Nevada. This is likely whitebark pine because no intact seed-bearing cones were evident whereas lots of shattered cone scales littered the understory. According to Dr. Cathy Cripps, MSU, the mushroom in the photo looks like Neolentinus ponderosus (photos are good enough for a certain identification). It would not be mycorrhizal but a weak parasite usually found on the stumps of conifers (e.g., often in logging situations). This mushroom has not been observed to coexist strictly with whitebark pine and is usually found on on stumps of 2- and 3-needle pine species and possibly other conifers. |
