Many severe thunderstorm warnings across a number of states from Illinois to Maryland were posted on June 13, 2013. The storms dropped heavy rains, and brought gusty winds, caused flash flooding, and tornadoes in several states.The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer, or MODIS instrument that flies aboard NASA’s Terra satellite captured a visible image of a weather system that brought severe weather from the Midwest to the Mid-Atlantic and northeastern United States. It was taken on June 13 at 15:30 UTC (1:30 p.m. EDT). A second round of severe weather impacted the Mid-Atlantic spawning three tornadoes in Maryland.
