説明 | The "Treaty Oak" which stood on the land now occupied by the Hilton Washington and Towers at 1919 Connecticut Ave., NW.18' around, it was reported to be over 400 years old when it was cut down in 1953 during the subdivision of the Oak Lawn estate, which occupied the site between 1820 and 1952. The tree was said to have been a landmark before the arrival of whites in the area, and (almost certainly apocryphally) the site of several treaties between the English and Native Americans in the late 17th century. Americans Forests, March 1931. |
