| 説明 | DuSable opened in 1934, as the first high school built especially for Negroes (as we were known as at that time). Before that, if you were Negro in the city of Chicago, you went to Wendell Phillips on 39th St.Nat King Cole and Dinah Washington, among others, attended DuSable High School back in its heyday, taught by the legendary music teacher Dr. Walter Dyett. Under his guidance, DuSable's jazz band played professional engagements; they were that good.It has declined from those heady days; notice that most of its windows that face what used to be Robert Taylor Homes are completely bricked over. |
