| 説明 | CALHOUN FALLS, S.C. – In its 25th year, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Kid's Fishing Derby at Richard B. Russell Lake attracted 176 children plus their parents for a morning of fishing and a water safety program, May 11, 2013. The Corps partnered with the Georgia and South Carolina Departments of Natural Resources and the Lake Russell Recreation and Tourism Coalition to host this event. Other volunteers included the Future Farmers of America and the Boy Scouts of America. The event gave children an opportunity to fish in a netted area stocked with catfish. After fishing, the Corps and Georgia DNR presented an educational water safety program geared toward children and adults. The Corps provided a Life Jacket Loaner Board stocked with a variety of life jackets for participants to wear while fishing. The Corps' Richard B. Russell Project hosts the derby every year as part of its community outreach and water safety mission. USACE photo by Julian George. |
