| 説明 | The iron statue 'The Steelworker' stands at the entrance to the Niles Iron & Metal Co. plant at 700 South Main Street, Niles Ohio.An abstract sculpture of welded scrap iron depicting a standing steelworker wearing a safety helmet. He holds a blow torch in his proper right hand in front of him. Surrounding the steelworker are thirteen circles of welded scrap iron lying directly on the ground. The figure is mounted atop a rectangular base composed of welded steel and concrete.Artist: Sidney Rackoff. Commissioned by the owners of Niles Iron and Metal to build a sculpture to commemorate their parents' anniversary, Rabbi Rackoff was given free rein in the scrap yard where the 20' statue was erected in1994 with assistance and cooperation from workers. Rabbi Rackoff (retired) of Willoughby, Ohio is a self-taught scrap steel sculptor and former steelworker. He describes this as a collaborative piece between himself and the workers, the men who truly inspired the sculpture. |
