He has the matted locks of an ascetic, adorned with a crescent moon, Shiva's wife, Parvati, embraces him; the mirror in her left hand reflects her husband's glory as well as her own beauty. The skeletal Bhringi dances in front of Nandi, the god's bull, Ganesha and Kumara, the couple's sons, sit at either side. At the top are Brahma, the creator, and Vishnu, the preserver. The five lingas symbolize Shiva's five philosophical aspects. |
