| 説明 | A young fresh gall on a side stem of Sonchus asper - the only known host plant in Kent. The fresh gall is easily found - the slight swelling is often rather more hairy and flushed with purple. Later, especially as the plant dies back, the gall is more difficult to find. The gall matures in October and the wasp larvae overwinter in the gall and emerge the following May. If I want to collect the galled stems to rear the causers and their parasitoids I try to mark the stems with coloured tags so that I can refind them during the winter. IN the UK this species was originally found in Essex and is also now known from Kent. |
