| 説明 | St Sebastian was an officer in the Roman army. He refused an order to martyr a bunch of Christians. For this, many terrible things were done to him. He was tied to a tree and then put in front of a firing squad. Since guns were not yet invented, the used archers instead. (Maybe "firing squad" isn't the most accurate term.) He was shot full of arrows but did not die!He was miraculously saved in order to endure further torments before he finally croaked after a horrible death.He's easy to recognize in icons because of the arrows.Here, he's all shot up in the big cathedral in Vienna. |
