| 説明 | Pseudopenthes hesperisThis Beefly was flying around our yard above the Native bee holes. These beeflies larvae possibly parasitize bees.Comments from a previous photo of this fly on "Why the name Anthrax?" Initially I thought this fly was an Anthrax species. " I think this link on etymology might answer it?Thus 'anthrax' of old referred to severe boils in general (that often secondarily turn black in the middle), also a symptom of skin infected with Bacillus anthracis (Anthrax). And perhaps the name of this genus of flies, which also means coal-black, derives from the general black nature of them?" Thanks for the info Tony and the name Michael |
