Esta iglesia fue edificada por los franciscanos en el siglo XVI terminada el 29 de septiembre de 1563, seg{un consta en la inscripcion de su bella portada plateresca. La torre es posterior a la fachada, tal vez de principios del XVII. El resto del edificio es moderno y consta de materiales y tecnica de los usados hscis 1930 cuando la iglesia fur reparada.El templo posee una sobria fachada pero con una bella portada plateresca de cantera rosa y gris, con las inscripciones correspondientes a su fundación, donde de pronto voy leyendo “A XXIX” Lo que traduciendo abreviatura y números romanos dice “Año 1529” ¿Será esto posible? Increíblemente son solo 10 años después de la conquista de Tenochtitlán, eso quiere decir que Fray Pedro de Gante muy posiblemente pudo conocer este edificio.unque el estado en que se encuentra el templo tiene unos cuantos, ya que en el año de 2008 sufrió severas remodelaciones y según el testimonio de los pobladores además de una denuncia ante el ministerio público el entonces párroco Sergio Oliva sustrajo obras de arte y retablos, con el pretexto de su preservación.Obras de arte de las que no pude dar cuenta de su regreso, ya difícilmente sabremos que no estaban en un taller de restauración sino en la casa de algún político o muy posiblemente en el mercado negro de arte sacro que es lamentablemente muy difundido en este país. Por si fuera poco también se tapearon diversos arcos que poseía el templo, otros simplemente se retiraron como es el caso de unos nichos laterales que tenía la nave mayor y se quitaron lápidas muy antiguas del panteón que originalmente hubo en el atrio.Como siempre uno se encuentra con estas atrocidades a la historia y el patrimonio que no pueden ignorarse, pero también uno celebra que a pesar de todo esto, aún existan estos templos tan antiguos y no hayan sido reemplazados por alguna inmundicia arquitectónica que se celebre como “de vanguardia”En otra de las salas aprecié una reliquia que es la que da su nombre a la iglesia “Santa Cruz de Jerusalén” que se encuentra custodiada en una vitrinita y que pasean cada año en una procesión con banda de pueblo, para culminar en una feria en torno a la iglesia con jactanciosos juegos mecánicos y estrepitosos cohetes.
