| 説明 | The B-29 was developed as a strategic long-range bomber for the US war effort in World War II. It was primarily used in the Pacific theater to bomb Japanese targets. This aircraft is Enola Gay, the very aircraft that delivered an atomic bomb over the skies of Hiroshima, for the first nuclear attack in world history. In 1996, only the nose of the aircraft was on display at the National Air & Space Museum, as seen here in an unretouched scan of a 35mm positive. The rest of the aircraft was stored at Dulles Airport in a restoration hangar. In 2003, that hangar would evolve into Udvar-Hazy Center, the annex of the National Air & Space Museum, and Enola Gay, whole again, would be one of its star attractions. |
