| 説明 | Evergreen Lodge, Tortuguero National Reserve, Costa Rica.After lunch our guide took us on a guided tour of the trails through and around Evergreen Lodge. Basically the lodge was built within the rainforest.Dipteryx is a genus containing a number of species of large trees and possibly shrubs. It belongs to the "papilionoid" subfamily – Faboideae – of the family Fabaceae (formerly Papilionaceae). This genus is native to South and Central America and the Caribbean.The northernmost taxon Dipteryx panamensis, notable as being the only species listed on CITES since 2003 and therefore subject to export controls, was synonymised with the neglected but older name Dipterix oleifera by de Lima in 1989, but this move was only followed by ILDIS and one or two of articles on the species over the years, all other floras, databases and publications using the name Dipterix panamensis.Dipteryx oleifera (syns. Dipteryx panamensis and Coumarouna panamensis), the tonka bean, eboe, choibá, or almendro (almond in Spanish), is a species of emergent rainforest tree native to Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, and Ecuador.A valuable hardwood timber tree, its almond-flavoured seeds are edible and sold in local markets. Its seedpods are so oily that locals use them as torches. It has "great potential" as an ornamental due to its spectacular bloom of pink flowers which lasts for weeks, and is used as a street tree in Medellín, Colombia. The flowers are followed by green fruit with seeds which are a critical food item for the great green macaw.Remarkably, this species has been identified as benefiting from being struck by lightning: it is almost undamaged while its parasites and nearby competitors are killed. |
