| 説明 | "I, Barack Hussein Obama, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, so help me God."This was the view that I had from non-ticketed viewing area of the Washington Mall, on 4th Street, as President Barack Obama took his oath of office, with First Lady Michelle Obama holding two Bibles - one of Dr. Martin Luther King and one of President Abraham Lincoln - and with Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, John Roberts, administering the oath. Thanks to a press tower directly in my line of sight, I cannot see the President directly, though nearby Jumbotron screens had good close-up views.Barack Obama is only the second President to take the oath of office four times. For his first term, he took the oath during the initial Inauguration on 20 January 2009, however as Chief Justice Roberts had mangled the words slightly, a second, private oath ceremony was done the next day just to be sure of compliance with the Constitution (though the original mangled oath would most likely have been valid anyway). And for the second term, two oaths are being taken as well - as the required date, 20 January, was a Sunday, a private oath ceremony was done at the White House, and a public ceremony is taking place on the Capitol steps the next day. The only other President to take four oaths of office was four-term President Franklin Roosevelt.The last time 20 January fell on a Sunday was in 1985, for Ronald Reagan's second inauguration; as a result, Reagan took his oath of office twice in 1985, and three times overall. |
