| 説明 | Beech HangerIn memory of Edward Thomas (1878-1917)I walked into a beech wood across a rampartand ditch of ancient chalk. Ivy was rampant. The wren’s spry song had withered. Beechleaves blackened, or yellowed on the branch.Coldness sidled up to embrace me. I was quiteready to greet decay, let mould and worms create.I could’ve lain down, made myself a man of earth, become one or nothing. Then the gun went off.Poem by Giles Watson, 2012. |
