| 説明 | Muskflower (Mimulus moschatus var. moschatus), Lopseed family (Phrymaceae). All mimuli have a nice defence against insects - a layer of long hairs on the surface of leaves and stems. Each hair has a spherical gland on the tip, which probably sticky and contains some enzymes that kills the flies. I saw lots of small dead flies on the leaf surface. Corresponding to Wikipedia article (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mimulus), some mimuli can be carnivorous. I think many of them. This photo shows a part of the plant infested with aphids. In response, the glands produced extra amount of sap which helps to keep the parasites relatively in control. |
