| 説明 | Admiral Brown Statue - Dublin DocklandsThis statue was moved from its original position to a much better location earlier this year (2012).In the words of Robert Emmett, ‘a man can die twice, once when faced by the gallows and secondly when his deeds are forgotten’. The challenge to remember Admiral William Brown, founder of the Argentine Navy, and his deeds, has been taken up by his fellow county men. Brown was born in Foxford Co. Mayo in 1777 and died in Argentina a naval hero in 1857. At his graveside oration it was said by the President of Argentina that “Brown in his lifetime, standing on the stern of his ship, was worth a fleet to us”.On September 27th (2006) at 6.30 pm An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern unveiled a very special statue honouring the Irish seaman. Also launched the same night was the long awaited book “Ireland’s Son, Argentina’s Hero: The Story of Admiral William Brown” by Marcus Aguinas, translated from Spanish into English by well-known producer and writer Bill Tyson. |
