| 説明 | At the Maryland National Guard's Gunpowder Military Reservation in Glen Arm, Md., the University of Maryland’s Reserve Officers' Training Corps conducted its rehearsal for the 2012 Ranger Challenge Competition on Oct. 19, 2012. Thirty-eight schools will compete in the two-day competition at Fort Pickett, Va., on October 25.The Terrapin Battalion, headquartered in College Park, Md., is under 4th Brigade, United States Army Cadet Command. The 4th Brigade includes ROTC schools in most of the northeastern U.S. "The intent today isn't to test their stamina, it’s more of a walk through. They’ll see the different stations and we’ll through some variables at them. Get them thinking and working together as a team," said Lt. Col Curt Burrell, battalion commander and professor of military science.During the rehearsal nine cadets and two safeties negotiated numerous stations that included a 3-mile hill run with a 30-pound rucksack, Engagement Skills Trainer 2000, obstacle course, casualty movement, tactical movements, radio communications, boat movement, one rope bridge, Military Operations in Urban Terrain training, hand grenade assault course and confidence course."For the cadets, what they get out of this is a sense of accomplishment. They get to be a part of a team. They get to do something a little bit different then what everyone else is doing. Hopefully they'll come home with a big trophy," added Burrell.(Photo by Staff Sgt.
