(54 floors)Materials: Glass, GraniteProgram: Commercial OfficeThe Blue Cross Blue Shield Tower is located on East Randolph right across from the Aon Center. The first 32 stories of the building were completed in 1997 and the next 25 were completed in 2010. The materials of the façade were chosen so that minimal aging would show in the case that another vertical addition would be made. The side facing Grant Park is oftentimes used to display words through the opening and closing of window shades. The use of fritted glass is extensive throughout the building; on the façade, in the elevators, and around the atrium which runs up the north side of the building. The Blue Cross Blue Shield Tower was the only high-rise office constructed in Chicago between 1992 and 1999. |
