Soldiers from the 1-140th Aviation Battalion and Airmen from the 163rd Reconnaissance Wing conducted a disaster response exercise at Fort Irwin, Calif., to advance communications during domestic crisis operations for California Army and Air National Guard, July 25, 2012. The ROVER device used in the exercise helps military and civilian first responders see the magnitude of the disaster with the information needed to save lives on the ground through airborne incident awareness and assessment capabilities. The simulated scenario for the Grizzly Field exercise is an earthquake in the Southern California region, causing mass casualties and stranding several people without water and food. National Guard personnel and assets are called upon to assist civil authorities in coping with the disaster.(Air National Guard photo/Master Sgt. Julie Avey) |
