| 説明 | This is far from being the best, or even an acceptable, photograph of the War Memorial in Sydney's Hyde Park.But as I was walking back to my hotel after a most pleasant dinner — ironically at the Nippon Club, a returned servicemen's club that was started by fighting men of Australia, New Zealand and Japan who, immediately after WWII, realised that they shared more in common than they differed — I spent a peaceful moment contemplating what had transpired in Australia's parliament this week.Australia has decided that, yes, the best thing to do with some of the most vulnerable people in the world is to ship them to a concentration camp in another country, there to be "detained" — as if it's like being kept in after school! — for an unknown period.Imprisoned without having even being suspected of committing a crime, let alone being charged with one.Pretty fucking disgusting if you ask me.This week, I feel significantly less able to face the world and say that I am an Australian.Posted via Instagram at August 15, 2012 at 09:17PM |
