| 説明 | Designed by James Shearer and completed in 1936, this is a rather splendid building, and yet another listed building in Dunfermline that is currently empty - a new fire station was completed in 2010. There are (were?), however, interesting plans to convert the building into art studios and gallery: www.firestationcreative.com/.The building underwent not-entirely sensitive alterations in the 1980s, after earlier plans to relocate were abandoned. This included the addition of a pitched roof that is hidden by a raised parapet. This was 'complemented' by an additional string course, added above the second floor windows. The brick facing to the left-hand bay window originally rose to full height. These alterations may have slightly compromised the building, but it's still a worthy, and welcome, architectural feature on Carnegie Drive. |
