| 説明 | This set comprises rare magazine illustrations by Cecil Aldin for Rudyard Kipling's story "Letting In the Jungle", which are public domain due to their age. Aldin later became a highly-respected artist, but here his career was still in its infancy, and so unfortunately they don't represent him at his best. In this picture, for instance, the wolves look like dogs and the men don't look very mich like natives of India.Due to the vagaries of the uploading process these images appear in random order, but I'll give a brief description of the story here and indicate where each individual image fits in.After defeating the tiger Shere Khan, Mowgli, the boy raised by wolves in the Indian jungle, leaves his pack and returns to human society, but his "uncivilised" behaviour causes him to be cast out. Mowgli would be happy to forget about humans altogether, until he learns that the villagers are planning to execute Mowgli's adoptive human parents for their son's "witchcraft". Mowgli tells his wolf friends to distract the village's hunters while he frees his parents, and then plans his revenge...This picture depicts the moment when the wolves terrify the hunters by breaking into a chorus of howls - the Morning-Song in the Jungle. |
