It was a Byzantine icon.According to tradition Positano was founded by inhabitants of Paestum, from whom they may have inherited the name of Pestano or Pesitano, who were seeking refuge in the area after their city had been destroyed by the Saracens. But it is more likely that the name derives from the Posidii family, who possessed lands in this area.Development began in the period of the Maritime Republics.The monument was blessed by Archbishop Angelo Rossini - Archbishop of Amalfi.It is a marble statue donated by Tessitore Nicola. |
