| 説明 | This idyllic view of Havana, Cuba, belies the destruction of the bitter siege of Havana from March to August, 1762. The British captured Havana from the Spanish. The reference to "Colonel Howe's battery" refers to William Howe (10 August 1729 - 12 July 1814), who served as adjutant-general to the British force. Howe played a notable role in all the wars depicted in this exhibition, as an active officer in the British Army. This etching and engraving was donated to the library by the Bain family in 2008.Title: A View of the Market Place in the City of Havana from the Road near Colonel Howe's BatteryCreator: Elias Durnford; Eng.
