| 説明 | The USDA Plant Database assigns these to the Pyrolaceae family, but the APG III classification system now places them in Ericaceae.I found a few examples of this beautiful little evergreen growing in very good quality oak or mixed deciduous and evergreen woods. All the ones I saw were in particularly undisturbed appearing areas of the fairly dry rocky soil which occurs high above the river, like this mossy spot immediately beneath an Oak (Quercus) tree, where the soil appeared not to have been compacted or disturbed by humans. This plant seemed to glow from within with a kind of silent power that made it seem much larger than it was. It's seemed calm, dignified, perhaps a little cold, and intelligent. Spotted Wintergreen is a partial myco-heterotroph, meaning that although it has green leaves, it obtains a significant portion of it's energy by parasitizing fungi. |
