| 説明 | You can see "the man himself" peeking over the top left hand corner of this memorial plaque near the ceremonial bridge at the Kong Zi (Confucius) Museum in Wenchang City. The plaque reads "Zhuang Yuan Qiao" which means "Number One Scholar's Bridge".During the Qing and Ming Dynasties, no-one was allowed to walk over this bridge, except for the number one scholars. As it happened, no-one qualified for this honour! Today, everybody wanders over the bridge. I think it is a shame that some traditions are no longer observed. |
