| 説明 | I caught the no 63 bus to the Rubery Flyover. Didn't want to walk into the Rubery Town Centre. Mainly wanted to take shots of the flyover.I remember seeing it when I was younger when we used to go to a hobby shop specialising in things such as Hornby Railways.At the far end of the Bristol Road South (between the M5 and Longbridge).Rubery is split between the district of Bromsgrove in Worcestershire and the City of Birmingham, West Midlands.Is near Great Park (they have an Empire cinema there).This is the Former Entrance Lodge to Rubery Hill Hospital. It is Grade II listed.Former Entrance Lodge to Rubery Hill Hospital 1959, BirminghamBIRMINGHAM BRISTOL ROAD SOUTHSO 97 NE15/10041 Number 1959,Former Entrance Lodge toRubery Hill HospitalIIFormer entrance lodge,now private dwelling.Circa 1882 byMartin and Chamberlain for the Borough of Birmingham LunaticAsylum Committee of Visitors,with C20 alterations andadditions.Red brick with ashlar dressings,gable stacks withmoulded brickwork,and a plain tiled roof with crested ridgesand terracotta finials.West elevation;2 storeys,4 bays withadvanced gable to right,and entrance in the angle of the 2ranges,beneath an open porch supported on moulded timberposts.6-panel door, the upper 4 panels glazed and below arectangular overlight.To the left of the doorway,2 groundfloor openings,one tall with an upper sash of 12 lights overan undivided lower sash and steeply sloping ashlarcill.Smaller window without glazing bars. Window above doorwayinterrupts bracketed eaves.Advanced gable with 2 tall narrowsashes without glazing bars to ground floor;coupled firstfloorsashes to gable centre within gable wall incorporatingslender box framing above moulded terracotta band.Bricknogging infill to framing.Moulded bargeboards with dropfinial.South elevation with gablet above canted bay window andwith moulded terracotta band returned above.Advanced gable togarden front with moulded band below eaves brackets,andchimney breast expressed in gable.Single first floor sash toleft of gable apex.Tall lean-to extends beyond line ofgable.Interior not inspected but likely to contain features ofinterest.Redrow are building new homes on the site of the former hospital. |
