| 説明 | This monument was unveiled in May 1894 at a reunion of Confederate Veterans. Designed and carved by artist William Ludwell Sheppard, the monument is situated in Libby Hill Park, and is one of Richmond's landmarks. The bronze figure shown above of a Confederate Soldier atop of the monument is said to be the largest piece of solid bronze ever cast in the U. S. The soldier is 17 foot high, standing on top of a granite column 73 foot high, made of 13 stone cylinders to represent the 13 Confederate States of America.
