| 説明 | 16th century farmhouse in Berrow Walk, near St John's Lane in Knowle, BristolWe don't know precisely when this lovely old building was built, but likely 16th century. It used to have a large pond with a central island that's now been filled in. The house was owned by a William Bullock in 1674 but by the tithe survey of 1841 it's recorded as part of the Smyths of Ashton Court esttate. The building was described by the tithe survey as "Farm house, gardens, yards and buildings" and was rented by Richard Hunt. It was bought by a cooperative of eight people in 2010 - they now live with independent space in this shared building, sharing a kitchen and the renovation costs. Since 2010 the community has rewired the property, added central heating and plumbing for more than the single bathroom that was there. To find out more about where this information came from, look on maps.bristol.gov.uk/knowyourplace/ I took this picture for ds106, the digital storytelling course, as part of a challenge to take a photo of the oldest building near me, which I then needed to look even older. |
