| 説明 | A shrimp farm at the at Kompong Phluk floating village on the mighty Tonle Sap lake near Siem Reap, Cambodia. While Kompong Phluk is on dry land for just a few months in a year, come monsoon rains and the Tonle Sap lake expands considerably and floods most of the village. Durng the floods, which is for much of the year, villagers rely heaviy on fishing for their livelihoods, catching fish, crabs, snails, frogs and snakes- yes snakes- locals eat the local water snakes and also sell some of them to the crocodile farm in Siem Reap as food for the crocodiles. Some of the locals also supplement their income from shrimp farming. Here is one of the many shrimp farms on Kompong Phluk. Apart from providing their locals with livelihood- sadly under threat from the construction of large dams further upstream (by China, who else), the Tonle Sap also supports a fragile ecosystem, which is also under threat due to over exploitation and habitat loss.
