| 説明 | A solitary mangrove- the Tonle Sap is more of a sea than a lake (in the wet season). This pitifully small looking lone mangrove gives an idea of scale of the massive Tonle Sap. I am on a day trip to Kompong Phluk floating village located on the Tonle Sap, and so after sailing right through the rather large village, which seemed to go on forever, and after a brief halt at a floating fish market, seeming in the middle of nowhere, on this might lake, we have now hit the open waters of the Tonle Sap. Among the scores of species of fish found in the lake is one species of giant catfish with record of specimens weighing upto 300 kg each1 This endangered species is confined to the Mekong river and surrounding rivers and lakes. A large crocodile farming industry also thrives on and around Tonle Sap. The main species is the Siamese crocodile, critically endangered in the wild. The mighty Tonle Sap also provides a habitat for 13 different species of turtle. We could not spot a single turtle or crocodile during all our time in the lake though. Maybe these critters were much deeper inside the lake- or it was probably simply due to the murky waters! Detailed notes about Kompong Phluk and the Tonle Sap appeared earlier in this album.
