The National Day of Prayer is an annual event that was established by Congress in 1952. Chaplain (Maj.) Michael Frailey said he liked “being able to worship the Lord with other Soldiers." First Lt. Jayson Goff of 3-2 General Support Aviation Battalion said his favorite parts of the morning were the good food and a speech by Col. Joseph Moore, United States Army Garrison Humphreys commander. "It's good to know that we have leadership that does take this seriously,” he said."I feel good, like I’m blessed to see another day," added Spc. Calvin Martin of the 3rd Military Intelligence Battalion. Moore opened with prayer, then delivered his message, entitled, “Is God’s Word a Limitation or an Inspiration?” In his youth, Moore considered being a pastor, but said he decided on a different career path, in part because of his poor singing abilities.“For me, the Bible is an inspiration,” said Moore, who filled his message with verses from Proverbs, Philippians and Job. He also said that it’s OK if you don’t understand everything about religion, “just have a relationship with God.”Moore concluded his message with the Lord's Prayer. The scripture readings for the day were II Chronicles 7:11-16 and Psalm 33:22, read by Frailey. Chaplain (Maj.) John Chun gave the benediction. |
