説明 | The zone of the Garbatella was arranged by the public agency, the ICP, the Istituto per le Case Popolari, beginning in 1920, as a "garden suburb" like the contemporaneous zone of Montesacro to the east of Rome, but while Montesacro was designed for the bourgeois, Garbatella was set up for the working class. The ground was divided into lots ("lotti"), and set up with a shared portiere or porter. The left-hand sign indicates that the porter's lodge for Lot 32 is at staircase B of Lot 37. The right-hand sign points the way to a number of other lots. Yes, it's a bit Brave New Worldish. But I like the style of the signage. |
