| 説明 | On my way out, I took this shot looking down the corridors surrounding the Angkor Wat main shrine. I have finished checking out the temple- lucky to get most of it to myself as it was closed on that day so it did a fair bit of coaxing and cajoling and begging until one of the staff there took pity on me and agreed to show me around. I tipped him generously of course. Now on my way out, I was stopping to once again take a second look at and take pictures of things that had really caught my fancy and had held me spellbound. Here we ae again at the brilliant decorative lintels with remnants of Khmer era painting in the corridors of the main Angkor Wat temple. It's indeed fascinating that these brilliant intricate carvings and remnants of Khmer era paintings have survived several centuries! (unless the paintings are a result of recent renovations of course). Things in those days were apparently not mass produced in China! The Angkor Wat was made out of 5 to 10 million sandstone blocks with a maximum weight of 1.5 tons each. Detailed notes about the Angkor Wat temple appear throughout this album. (see previous and subsequent pictures). (Siem Reap, Cambodia, Oct. 2008) |
