| 説明 | This gravestone is somewhat near the center of the grounds of the historic Springwood Cemetery in Greenville, South Carolina. It reads: "Alexander Sloan Townes, Feb. 20, 1842 - Nov. 28, 1909. President of Shorter College 1874 - 1875, President of Greenville Female College 1978 - 1894, President of Greenville College for Women, 1894 - 1908. A Life of Noble Service in the Cause of Education. Blessed are the Pure of Heart. Elvira Sayle McKellar, His Wife, Jan 6., 1852 - Jan. 20, 1933. Safe in the Arms of Jesus."My first thought was that she passed away on the date that President Franklin Delano Roosevelt was inaugurated, but it was not until March 4, 1933 that FDR was sworn into office. |
