| 説明 | It was such a nice day, that we headed to Weymouth and Portland. Lucky to have blue skys as well after previous rainy days.More of the Fairhaven Hotel at Augusta Place. Grade II listed.Augusta Place (terrace) with Boundary Railings 36, WeymouthWEYMOUTHSY6878NW ESPLANADE873-1/24/120 (West side)18/06/70 No.36Augusta Place (terrace), withboundary railingsGV IIFormerly known as: No.2 AUGUSTA PLACE.House in row. Late C18. Flemish bond brickwork, slate doubleroof to an internal valley.3 storeys, attic and basement, 2 windows; hipped dormers abovea 3-storey canted bay with 6:9:6 and 8:12:8-pane sashes, amodillion top cornice, and plain skirts. To the left of thebay a 9-pane above 12-pane sash, in plain reveals, and centredto the original pair (Nos 35 & 36); the basement light, in theplane of the main wall, is a replacement. To the left, on 5stone steps carried on a quadrant arch, a C20 door with 3-panetransom light. Plain bands at first and second floors, and theformer moulded cornice has been cut back to a plain band belowthe blocking-course with coped parapet. 2 deep brick stacks tothe right have been raised to clear the higher adjoiningproperty, No.37 (qv).INTERIOR: not inspected.SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: across the full width of the front areoriginal railings, returned to the door, including a centralrun between this and No.35 (not included), and a gate tobasement steps to the right.This was built as one of a pair with No.35 but has been lessmodified than its neighbour.(RCHME: Dorset, South-East: London: 1970-: 354). Late C18, raised one storey mid C19 (RCHME).Flemish bond brickwork, stone basement, slate double roof withinternal valley.3 storeys, attic and basement, 3 windows, all plain sashes,including 3 hipped dormers; the basement, in rusticatedstonework, has 2 doors. To the right, on 1 nosed and 4 plainstone steps is a 6-panel door under a wide arch, with radialfanlight and sub-arch, with transom, and narrow side-lights,all in a moulded architrave. Front covered with creeper growthat time of survey which conceals many details, but theprevious list refers to stone bands and sill bands, flatrusticated arches to ground- and first-floor windows, mouldedcornice and parapet. There are 2 deep stacks to the left partywall.INTERIOR: not inspected.SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: across the full width of the front areoriginal cast-iron railings with fleur-de-lys heads, with 5standards, on a stone curb, with a gate to basement steps tothe left, and returned to the main door, including a run tothe right of the steps.(RCHME: Dorset, South-East: London: 1970-: 354). Late C18 or early C19.Painted Flemish bond brockwork, slate wide-span mansard roof.3 storeys and attic, each 1 window; a flat-roofed dormer,4-pane to No.39 and blocked to No.40, above 2-storey boworiels with 8:12:8-pane sashes, the top floor with dentilcornice. Ground floors have late C20 shop fronts, but No.40retains, to the left an early 4-panel door under a radialfanlight, in reveals, with fluted Corinthian pilasters (theleft-hand pilaster lost). A central ridge stack; the ridgelevel to the left is slightly lower than to the right. Theright gable wall, exposed in a narrow alleyway, is plainrendered.INTERIOR: not inspected. At the time of survey No.40 appearedto be unused above the ground floor.(RCHME: Dorset, South-East: London: 1970-: 352). |
