| 説明 | A line of rooster idols lines the canal, as seen from the bridge leading to the memorial the Thai king Naresuan, former king of Ayutthaya. The area all around the King Naresuan monument is filled with thousands of statues of roosters and fighting cocks, some pretty small like this lot, and some pretty large ones as you saw in the previous picture. King Naresuan was said to have owned several fighting cocks which were famed for their strength and courage. The statues which have been left in King Naresuan’s honour represent the king’s own fighting spirit and bravery. More notes about Naresuan's victory with his fighting roosters appeared earlier in this album. (see previous picture). (Ayutthaya, Thailand, Oct. 2008) |
