| 説明 | I am at the Saiyok Noi waterfalls site near Kancanaburi, Thailand. After having spent all afternoon exploring the horrors of the Death Railway, the construction through dense jungle and inhospitable terrain of which claimed over a hundred thousand lives, (see detailed notes earlier in this album), we had a sort of change of scene for a little walk in the bush. Sadly the Death Railway will continue to haunt us for some time yet, starting from the steam locomotive preserved nearby (see previous pictures in this album) and this train line, which was actually part of the Death Railway but is just short of the abandoned 15km of track on this side of the border (Burma did likewise) as a mark of respect for the dead. (notes about this appear earlier in this album as well). As I walk away from the Saiyok Noi station, refreshed after my coffee and snack, I turned around to take this picture- a long view of the quaint and rather basic Nam Tok Saiyok Noi train station. The station sees a d.m.u. (diesel multiple unit) train service call here on weekends from Bangkok. That's what I had read on someone's blog, but a search on the net did not show up any notes of a regular scheduled weekend service on the line. There was only mention of a special excursion train. Oh well. (Kanchanaburi, Thailand, Oct. 2008) |
