| 説明 | A parallel set of rails, left in the pavement. I don't know if the rails inside the gate were a spur, or if they both formed a set of double tracks as part of the main line. This is the South County Trail, part of the former Putnam Branch of the New York Central.This railroad was never used solely for passenger rail in spite of its proximity to New York City. After passenger service ceased in the early 60's, they continued to use it for freight until the 80's because it had no tunnels or close bridges, so they could carry oversize loads on it. |
