| 説明 | Paris, summer 2003Sandy and I had been wandering around the streets in the St. Michele distict and decided to find a place and have a much-needed cold drink. We were off the main drag, but we did manage to find this rinky-dink cafe with two rickety tables out front. A Sorbonne student was sitting at one studying, and we sat down at the other. I had put my camera down on the table. When the owner saw it, he indicated (in sign language mostly) that I should take a picture of his cafe--of which he seemed inordinately proud. When he came out and struck this pose, I couldn't resist--I took a picture of him not the cafe. He's always struck me as the quintessential Parisian--and proud of it. He seems to me to sum up everything that Paris stands for.-- |
