| 説明 | This show reminded me of the street theatre shows you come across in crowded Asian night markets, albeit with a touch more class. They rely heavily on audience participation – hard to generate when a majority of the audience doesn’t understand the language in use – and a knowledge of the traditional masked characters that appear. Rich with colour, beautiful traditional costumes, cultural symbols, and dance and music, we were transported effortlessly to Korea. Honestly it didn’t matter what the story was about. I was charmed by the strangeness of it all. Beguiling comic characters entertained with physical pranks, and two beautiful dances with ropes and sheets of material were delightful. There was just enough English used to fill in the blanks for non-Korean speakers – the show may have benefited from an English narration – but there is something very enjoyable about trying to piece the plot together from actions rather than words. |
