説明 | In December 1972, then known as The Lost and Found, this would be the second big gay night club that I would began to frequent. A few months before, in October 1972, as a senior at Great Mills High School in Southern Maryland I would drive or catch the Greyhound bus up from St. Mary's County on Friday evenings and spend the weekend with Tom Wiley at his apartment in College Park which is where he attended the University of Maryland. Along with several other friends, on Friday and Saturday nights we'd drive down to Half and O Street in SW, which is just a few blocks from what was the Lost and Found and dance at the Pier 9.Which on some occasions, as the one black guy in the group, I could not always get in. Nor could I always get into the Lost and Found. As a freshman at the University of Maryland, in October 1973, and as Tom had done with me I would introduce Frank Gramarosa from Long Island, my long time best friend until his passing in the spring 1989, to the Pier 9 and the Lost and Found. At the time I was the only one with a car. He, Mark Moylette, Jimmy Jinkens and I, all who were frat brothers at Delta Tau Delta would drive down to SE and SW. On some occasions, as the one black male in the group, I was not always permitted in.And, yet, some of the best times of my life I would have at the Pier 9 and the Lost and Found. I'd meet two of lovers at the Pier 9.Eventually, at the Lost and Found, I had no problems getting in. Especially when most presumed that Frank, who was an Italian from Long Island, and I were lovers which always made it easier for me to get. We were not lovers ... just best of friends. And, no doubt, soul mates._____________To read my 30 July 2005 blog entry pertaining to this area of WDC as well as The Lost and Found visit spaces.msn.com/members/exb-photog-write/Blog/cns!1p65EGRD...I shed light on this history because my experience, as a black man, has never been the same or anywhere near to that of my white counterpart. And even when I thought, at the time, that our expereinces were similar or the same, some years later I would realize that they were not. Nor had they ever been. And when I say white counterpart I'm speaking best friends, lovers and, in the case of Franak, a soul mate. All whom I shared living space with and in many cases our beds. |
