| 説明 | The more you look at this mosaic, the more content that becomes evident. This mosaic builder is brilliant in the amout of detail he provides.Down in the right hand corner, for example, a wild boar can be seen attacking a fallen huntsman. A closer look shows that the man protecting him from the left has just pierced the boar's chest with his spear and blood can be seen running down its chest. That's what I saw to start with but a closer look shows that the fallen huntsman has also been injured - his inner left thigh has been gored and blood is dripping from the wound. His broken spear is on the ground alongside himThe boar may be killed by the spear, but above it there is another man with a large rock held above his head and it looks as if it will be a close-run thing as to whether it is speared to death or brained! Two hunting dogs are also hard at work, one at the nose (that has already bitten the boar's foreleg) and one at the tail and again, a really close look shows that the right hand dog has got a really good purchase on the boar's hind quarters and has also drawn blood. The more you look, the more you find! All this from one tiny section of a huge mosaic. The villa owner must have been amongst the uber-riche of the Roman upper class, able to afford the services of such a fantastic artist who worked in tiny cubes of coloured stone (tesserae). |
