| 説明 | The contrast between baroque and byzantine in Ravenna is stunning. The Church of San Vitale — styled an "ecclesiastical basilica" in the penn state, though it is not of architectural basilica form — is a Byzantine styled church in Ravenna, Italy. Built in the mid-sixth century under sponsorship by the emperor Justinian and his wife Theodora, its unique octagonal building style represented one of the most important examples of early Christian Byzantine Art and architecture in western Europe. It also served as a reminder of the Eastern-Roman Byzantine Christian presence in Italy at the time when much of the west was under Arian Ostrogothic rule. The building is one of eight Ravenna structures inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. - wiki |
